Welcome to the Donor Receipt Timeline for Andy for Governor. This page provides important information for our supporters about the timeline for receiving donor receipts.
As a valued contributor, you can expect to receive your donor receipt within the following timeframe:
- Immediate Acknowledgment: Upon making a donation, you will receive an immediate email confirmation acknowledging your contribution.
- Official Receipt: A formal receipt will be sent to you via email within 30 days of your donation. This document will serve as proof of your contribution for tax purposes.
- Year-End Summary: At the end of the calendar year, all donors will receive a summary of their contributions for the year, which will also include a detailed receipt for tax filing.
If you have any questions regarding your donation or the receipt process, please feel free to reach out to our support team.
Keeping Your Contribution Records Straight
Once your receipts arrive, a little organisation now can save confusion later. Political giving follows different rules from charitable giving, so it helps to understand what your records are for and how to keep them useful.
A note on taxes
Contributions to political campaigns and candidates are generally not deductible on federal income tax returns, even though a receipt documents the gift. A campaign receipt is mainly a record of what you gave, when, and to whom. Minnesota has at times offered a political contribution refund programme for eligible donors, but its availability and rules have changed over the years. Before relying on any credit or refund, check current guidance from the Minnesota Department of Revenue or ask a tax professional.
What to check on each receipt
- Your name and address: these should match what you entered, since campaigns must report certain donor details.
- Amount and date: compare them with your bank or card statement.
- Employer and occupation: these may be requested because of disclosure rules for larger contributions.
- Recurring gifts: confirm each instalment is listed separately if you give monthly.
Simple habits that help
Create an email folder or label for campaign receipts so the immediate confirmation, the formal receipt and the year-end summary sit together. If you give through more than one method, such as online and in person at an event, note each one so you can match it against the year-end summary. Contribution limits apply to individual donors, and keeping your own running total is the easiest way to stay within them.
If a receipt seems to be missing, look in your spam or promotions folder first and confirm the email address you used when giving. If it still hasn't arrived after the expected window, get in touch through our contact page and include the date and amount of your gift. To give again or set up a recurring contribution, visit the donate page.
